Vol.I Part II ALREADY?

What?! We're already supposed to be done vol.1 part II? Who came up with this stupid schedule?

Oh, that's right, I did. Ahahaha.

Really, I 'm not that completely far behind, maybe sixty pages from reaching today's deadline. I'm really enjoying the 'war' sections of the novel. One weird thing that I've noticed is that once Tolstoy gets into the action, the historical footnotes go the way of the passenger pigeon. Did the translators just get swept up in the fight scenes, or is there really no little historical asides that need clearing up? Or maybe I'm the one getting swept up in the battles, and I just haven't noticed the footnotes like I did before. Anyone else care to weigh in?

  1. Whoops! I fell behind this time too. I just wasn't paying attention to our deadlines, but have solved that problem by writing them in my daytimer so I will never again forget a looming a deadline. I haven't been reading as much these past 2 weeks, but I've made to to p. 173, so I've got about 30 to go. Now I've got a Saturday morning mission beyond coffee and pancakes.

At this point in my book I really feel like I should know my military history better. I'm actually in suspense. It feels like reading the bible and not knowing what happens after Jesus is crucified, or reading the Harry Potter books and forgetting everything by the time the movies come out.
Do the Russians protect Austria, or are they slaughtered? Thanks to Abba, I know Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo, but what's the time line between these battles and being crushed by the English? I could look this up on wikipedia, but I prefer to keep it a surprise for now.
